About 1900 he moved the head office to 27th and Lake St. Coliseum Bldg. and lived in Mpls. around Franklin and 4th Avenues. About 1919 he moved the office and lived in St. Paul"...He built a number of apartments and used the ground floor of 36 S. Snelling Ave. for Lumber Co. and Investment Co. office. In 1924 Leonard and Jake decided to go their own ways and split the yards. Jack Lampert, Leonard Lampert Sr.'s grandson, said that Leonard Sr. divided the yards into two groups and that Jake received first choice of the two groups. They agreed that neither would use the name Lampert Lumber Company for ten years. Jake named his company the Jake Lampert Yards, Inc. In 1938 the name of Jake's lumber yards were changed to the Lampert Yards, Inc. Leonard named his company the Lampert Brothers Lumber Company and changed it back to the Lampert Lumber Company in 1934. In about 1930 Jake sued Leonard as he believed that he received the least profitable yards. Jake lost in the Minn. Supreme court because he had, after all, received first pick.
