Mary Theresa 'Mae' Melvin


RAPID CITY - Mary Theresa (Mae) Melvin died Sunday, August 4, 2002, at Fairmont Grand Manor.
Mae was born in Rapid City to Orlin and Mary (Way) Lampert on August 31, 1908. She attended schools in Rapid City and graduated from Rapid City High School in 1926. She was married to L. William (Bill) Melvin on June 10, 1931, in Rapid City, and they spent their entire lives in Rapid City.
She was a life-long member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and served as Treasurer for several years. She was a volunteer in the Girl Scouts and spent many hours as a volunteer with the Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary and Hospice. She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Gail Gelino and husband, Charles, Miltona, MN, and Joyce Bjork and husband, Philip of Rapid City; five granddaughters, Kathy Gelino, Beth Gelino, Susan Lebakken, Tanja Bjork and Lara Bjork; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Shelton, Tucson, AZ; one sister-in-law, Helen Melvin, Rapid City; and one brother-in-law, Raymond Versaw, Grand Junction, CO.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, one brother and three sisters.
At her request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, with Father David Cameron officiating. Private inurnment will be at Mountain View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Hospice of the Hills.
