LAMPERT, LEONARD FRANKLIN born Nov. 13, 1919 in Minneapolis, passed away peacefully in the hospice at Presbyterian Homes in Arden Hills on Jan. 9, 2011 after a brief illness due to a stroke. Preceded in death by his parents Arthur John Lampert, Sr. and Irma Potter Smith, his sister Eleanor Plunkett (Warren) and his brother Kenneth (Rita). Survived by his brother Arthur John Lampert, Jr. (Louanne, deceased), nieces Dianne Plunkett Latham (Daniel), Lynda Plunkett-Wright (Gregory), Debra Massa (Joseph), Marilee Sager (Christopher) and nephew Peter Daniel Plunkett as well as 6 grand nieces and nephews. Leonard married Doris Hink on 11 Oct. 1949 and they divorced on 4 Oct. 1951. Leonard held a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering 1943, a Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering 1959, and a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry 1964, all from the University of Minnesota. He was a registered professional engineer and worked in the flight measurement research department, Douglas Aircraft Corp., El Segundo, CA, 1943-1947. He also worked in the research engineering department, Minneapolis Honeywell Corp., 1950-1953 and later had some assignments as an information scientist at Control Data Corp., Minneapolis. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta social fraternity, and Phi Lambda Upsilon, the national chemistry honor society. Len lived an active life into his mid 80’s with duck hunting, water skiing, cycling, alpine skiing, boating, and competitive ballroom dancing. He also held a private pilot’s license. He will be missed by all who shared many enjoyable adventures with him. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that memorials in memory of Leonard F. Lampert be made to the Mayo Foundation for medical education and research. A visitation will be held on Saturday, Feb, 19 at the Johnson Peterson Funeral Home 651-429-7661 located at 2130 Second Street, White Bear Lake MN with visitation from 10:30 to Noon and a Prayer Service at noon. The visitation will be immediately followed by private internment at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis at 1:30 PM.
